N2-003-20161119 Site Visit to Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station
November 19th 2016, Sat.     08:00

Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station has a total capacity of 2,400MW and it is one of the largest pumped storage power stations in the world.

This station uses hydro technology to store energy generated by other plants. Storage is achieved by pumping water from a lower to an upper reservoir. The stored energy can then be recovered by running the hydro units in reverse as generators, with their output available to the grid system at times of peak demand or as backup if other units shut down unexpectedly.

The pumped storage function also enables a nuclear plant to remain at full baseload operation despite fluctuations in system demand. Energy generated at Daya Bay, for example, can be used to pump water to the upper reservoir overnight, when system demand is low. CLP uses the contracted pumped storage capacity to support the operation and security of the Hong Kong electricity supply system.

Seminar on Introduction an Innovative Water Hygiene System in Cold and Hot Water
November 14th 2015, Sat.     14:00

Event brief

Nowadays, the maintenance of potable water hygiene in building installation is still often neglected. It is claimed that stagnation of water in pipework to be one of the main reasons for causing hygienic problem e.g. Legionella disease in potable water system. In order to maintain water hygiene and to improve quality of water drawn off at all outlets, an innovative technology on water management and hygiene is introduced and designed into the domestic cold water system cost effectively and prevent stagnation in all areas and ensures water quality. Moreover, this technology does not need chemicals for cleaning and give a quick return on investment.

- Partnership, Risk Management and Value Management

In this world of ever-changing and full of new technologies, the management model in all business should also change to meet the customers increasing demands and expectations.

As a result of traditional hierarchy management approach, there are many examples in cost and time overruns, and even disputes resolved in the Court. What are the reasons behind?

Numerous research studies concluded that lack of team spirit, no sense of crisis and no encouragement of creativities are the key factors.

Nowadays, Partnering, Risk Management and Value Management are promoted and being implemented in all major infrastructure projects and some large-scale private developments inorder to improve the team and the Project performance. The essences of NEC (New Engineering Contract), which will be fully implemented by the Government of HKSAR in the near future, are also based in these three areas.

The speaker will share his experiences and best practices in these areas with the participants and hopes that the sharing will enhance each other's business in a much smoother manner.

Seminar for Drainage Strategy in Super High Rise Building
August 31st 2011, Wed.     19:00

Building is being constructed higher and higher on the Earth nowadays. Drainage system might not be the most complicated services inside the super high rise buildings but may be one of the most difficult to resolve in case of problem happens such as water leakage, flooding, odor spread, water spill and etc. Particular attention should be drawn in design and installation for the soil and waste, storm water discharge systems as well as associated ventilation system at the beginning in order to avoid the possible tremendous trouble when it is put into operation.
